Life is short. Let’s infuse it with magic.

Cailleah Scott-Grimes (they/them) is a Toronto-based writer-director. From death positivity to struggles with gender identity, Cailleah's work brings an intimate lens to transgressive topics that are difficult to talk about. Their films have been featured on CBC Short Docs, Air Canada, and Cinema Politica. Their work has screened at 70+ international festivals, including Hot Docs, BFI Flare, and Outfest LA. They are also a creative partner at JbyJ Production, which works closely with the Japanese-Canadian community.

In 2021, Cailleah received the Lindalee Tracey Award for their Master’s thesis film BETWEEN US (2020), set in their former home of Yamagata, Japan. The film received a Best Director Jury Award at Image+Nation, the Best Short Film Jury Prize at Rozefilmdagen and was a finalist for the 2021 Iris Prize, the world’s largest award for LGBTQ+ short films. Cailleah also received the Best Director Award at the 2023 WIFT Showcase for their magical realism short, OVERGROWN (2022).

Cailleah is currently developing their first feature, THE VOICE OF CALLING, through Stowe Story Labs and the Women in the Director’s Chair (WIDC) Career Advancement Module.

When not shooting, you can find Cailleah dead-lifting at the gym, jamming with their electro-acappella group, Beatsync, or curled up with their manga.
